One might wonder why a normally quiet gray domestic shorthair like me would decide to start writing. After all, I've gone nearly eight years without looking for attention in the blogosphere. What would drive me to the keyboard now, especially when I could be napping?
Simply put: there's been a big change in my environment.
For a great part of the six years and change that I've been with my human, it's been just the two of us. Sure, there have been the occasional visitors, with friends and family coming over to visit. There have also been the times when the human will leave for a few days and a nice lady will stop by in the mornings and evenings to prepare my meals and clean my bathroom for me. But it hasn't been until now that we've been getting a LOT of visits from ONE person in particular.
And by that person I mean the human's new boyfriend.
Now, don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy and all that, and he seems very open to making friends, and he's clear on the fact that I was here first, but he's not what I would call a cat person. That is, his first priority isn't to hang around with me. I understand that he comes here to be with the human, and to be honest, I can't blame him. She has a very nice lap, she gives nice ear scritches, and she makes good meals.
Over the past few weeks, it's occurred to me that I can't be the only kitty who's been put in this position. From my research, I've found that there are plenty of human women who both live with cats and spend time with human men. Some of these women actually allow the man to live with them and their cat! In the true spirit of the blogosphere, I decided that I'd share my findings and experiences with other cats through this blog, A Cat's Guide to Men.
I'm not sure where the human's relationship with the boyfriend will lead, so I can't promise I'll cover everything, but if I can help one other cat find her way through a similar disruption in her living environment, I'll be happy. After all, we felines need to stick together.
